After an update this morning with OEP officials and the National Weather Service, Parish President Chester Cedars advises that as of 11:00 A.M. today, the current tropical system is projected to make landfall sometime Sunday. It will likely be a Category 3 Storm. Landfall is predicted to be between Lafayette and Baton Rouge. This is a significant change from previous projections.
St. Martin Parish can expect to start experiencing the effects early Sunday which will include significant rainfall and strong winds.
President Cedars has instructed that St. Martin Parish sandbagging operations to commence at 7:00 A.M. tomorrow. He has also scheduled a conference with all municipal officials this afternoon to coordinate plans. Projections regarding this storm are rapidly evolving. Therefore, an updated post will be forthcoming later this afternoon after an OEP/NWS conference.
