We have been advised of a second positive test for COVID-19 in St. Martin Parish. Please note again that pursuant to federal law, no personal identifying information can be disclosed about this positive test. However, as with any positive test, the patient has now been self-quarantined.

As I have previously stated, a positive test result does not, in and of itself, require any special measures above and beyond those previously imposed. The previous restrictions were put in place in anticipation of positive tests.

Do not become alarmed about there being additional positive tests forthcoming-THAT IS TO BE EXPECTED. The objective of the measures is to retard the spread of the virus, not to immediately eliminate it.

The Stay-At-Home Order issued by Governor John Bel Edwards, Executive Order 33 JBE 2020, has the full force and effect of law. We implore everyone to continue to adhere to those measures. We have the tools in place and now we should use them. The wisdom behind this comment of our OEP Director is so relevant: The virus doesn’t move, PEOPLE DO.

If anyone has questions about the application of the Stay-At-Home Order and, the Parish’s OEP should be contacted at 337-394-2808 for clarification.
